Insurance doesn't have to be complicated.
Emergency Medical Care Coverage
Yes, as long as you meet the pre-existing medical condition requirements of your contract.
Trip Cancellation or Interruption Coverage
If you bought your travel insurance before November 1, 2022, you are covered under the Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage, if it took effect after March 30, 2022, under the same conditions as any other event mentioned in the contract.
If you bought your travel insurance on or after November 1, 2022, the Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage allows you to be reimbursed for certain costs related to pandemics, including COVID-19, only if you have purchased Optional Protection: Pandemic.
To learn more about the Optional Protection: Pandemic and about the Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage, please consult the "Trip Cancellation or Interruption" section of your travel insurance policy or contact us at 1-888-822-5383.
Emergency Medical Care Coverage
Yes. The travel advisories of the Government of Canada do not affect insurance eligibility. However, we recommend that you follow government and health authority recommendations.
Trip Cancellation or Interruption Coverage
This coverage contains limitations regarding government advisories. Please refer to our policy to find out more.
For contracts purchased between March 30 and October 31st, 2022, if an advisory to “Avoid non-essential travel” or “Avoid all travel” is effective when the coverage becomes effective, the “Return delay expenses – COVID-19 pandemic” benefit covers some expenses. The expenses are covered if you must postpone your return due to a positive COVID-19 test or contact tracing.
For contracts purchased on or after November 1, 2022, you will need to purchase Optional Protection: Pandemic if you wish to benefit from the same coverage.
If you have any questions about your coverage, please refer to your travel insurance policy or contact us at 1-888-822-5383.
It is an option that we offer customers who take out travel insurance on or after November 1, 2022. With this option, you can insure certain trip cancellation or interruption costs, including those incurred during a pandemic. In fact, if you bought your travel insurance on or after November 1, 2022, you are not covered during a pandemic by Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage unless you purchase Optional Protection: Pandemic.
This coverage must be purchased at the same time as Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage, and:
- Within 5 days of the first non-refundable prepayment, or;
- At least 45 days prior to the departure date, or;
- On or before the departure date at the latest if travel expenses are not covered.
The level of coverage varies depending on whether a Canadian government travel advisory related to a pandemic is in force on the effective date of coverage.
To learn more about the Optional Protection: Pandemic, please consult the "Trip Cancellation or Interruption" section of the travel insurance policy.
